Family Accounts Overview
SlotBase supports family accounts so parents and guardians can manage their children's sports activities from a single dashboard. The family system links parent and child accounts together, giving parents full visibility and control over bookings, registrations, and payments for their kids.
How Family Accounts Work
A family account in SlotBase consists of:
- Parent Account -- An adult user who manages one or more child accounts
- Child Account -- A minor (under 18) whose activities are managed by the parent
- ParentChildLink -- The connection between parent and child accounts
Each child has their own account with their own name and profile, but the parent has oversight and control over all family activity.
Family Roles
Every member of a family link has a defined role:
| Role | Description |
|---|---|
| PARENT | The biological or adoptive parent of the child |
| GUARDIAN | A legal guardian responsible for the child |
| CHILD | The minor whose account is being managed |
Relationship Types
The link between an adult and child account has a relationship type that describes the connection:
| Relationship | Description |
|---|---|
| PARENT | Parent-child relationship |
| GUARDIAN | Legal guardian relationship |
| CAREGIVER | Caregiver or nanny who manages the child's activities |
| COACH | A coach who has been granted permission to manage the child's bookings |
What Parents Can Do
As a parent or guardian, you can:
- Add child accounts linked to your parent account
- Book sessions on behalf of your children
- Register children for events and programs
- View all family activity from a unified dashboard
- Manage payments for your children's bookings and registrations
- Receive notifications about your children's upcoming sessions
A parent account is a regular SlotBase account with the added ability to manage child accounts. You can also book sessions for yourself using the same account.
What Children Can Do
Child accounts have limited capabilities depending on the facility's minor signup policy and the child's age:
- Children under 13 typically cannot log in independently
- Children 13 and older may have limited self-service access (depending on facility settings)
- All children can have bookings made on their behalf by a parent
See Minor Accounts and Minor Signup Policies for details on age-based restrictions.
Key Concepts
- One parent, many children -- A single parent account can be linked to multiple child accounts.
- Multiple guardians -- A child can be linked to more than one adult (e.g., both parents have accounts).
- Facility-scoped -- Family relationships apply across all facilities. If a parent is a member at two facilities, they can manage their child at both.
- Age transitions -- When a child turns 18, their account transitions to a fully independent adult account.
Set up your family account as soon as you join a facility. This way, you can immediately book sessions and register for events on behalf of your children.
