Minor Accounts
Minor accounts are for players under 18 years of age. These accounts have special rules and restrictions to ensure the safety and appropriate management of young players on the platform.
What Makes an Account a Minor Account
An account is treated as a minor account when the user's date of birth indicates they are under 18. SlotBase automatically applies minor-specific rules based on the player's age.
| Age Range | Account Type | Key Characteristics |
|---|---|---|
| Under 13 | Minor (restricted) | Cannot self-signup at most facilities; must be managed by parent |
| 13 -- 17 | Minor (limited) | May self-signup at some facilities with restrictions; parent oversight |
| 18+ | Adult | Full independent access |
How Minor Accounts Are Created
Minor accounts are typically created in one of two ways:
- By a parent -- A parent adds the child through their family account. This is the most common method.
- By a facility admin -- An admin manually creates the account and links it to a parent.
Whether a minor can create their own account depends on the facility's minor signup policy. See Minor Signup Policies for details.
Restrictions for Minors
Minor accounts have the following restrictions compared to adult accounts:
Under 13
- Cannot create their own account at most facilities
- Cannot log in independently (parent manages everything)
- All bookings must be made by a parent or guardian
- No direct email notifications (notifications go to the parent)
Ages 13 -- 17
- May be able to create an account at facilities that allow it
- Can log in to view their schedule (if the facility permits)
- Bookings may still require parent involvement
- Notifications may go to both the minor and their parent
Parent Oversight
For all minor accounts, the linked parent or guardian has:
- Full visibility into the minor's bookings, registrations, and payments
- Booking authority to create, cancel, and reschedule on behalf of the minor
- Payment responsibility for all charges incurred by the minor
- Notification access to all communications related to the minor's activities
Minor accounts cannot make payments. All financial transactions flow through the linked parent account.
Minor Accounts from the Admin Perspective
As a facility admin, you can identify minor players on your roster by their Minor status label. From the admin dashboard, you can:
- View the minor's linked parent or guardian
- Contact the parent regarding the minor's activities
- Apply the facility's minor signup policy (see settings)
- Ensure all minors have a linked adult account
Data Privacy for Minors
SlotBase takes the privacy of minors seriously:
- Minor data is only visible to linked parents/guardians and facility admins
- Other players cannot see minor-specific information
- Communication preferences are managed by the parent
Transitioning to Adult
When a minor turns 18, their account automatically transitions to a full adult account. See When Minor Turns 18 for details on what changes.
