When Minor Turns 18
When a player on a minor account reaches their 18th birthday, their SlotBase account transitions from a parent-managed minor account to a fully independent adult account. This transition happens automatically and expands the player's capabilities.
What Changes at 18
The following changes take effect when a minor turns 18:
| Aspect | Before 18 | After 18 |
|---|---|---|
| Account type | Minor (managed by parent) | Independent adult |
| Login access | Limited or parent-managed | Full independent access |
| Booking ability | Via parent (or limited self-service) | Full self-service |
| Payment responsibility | Parent pays | Player pays (can set up own payment method) |
| Notifications | Sent to parent | Sent directly to the player |
| Profile management | Parent manages | Player manages independently |
When Does the Transition Happen
The transition occurs automatically on the player's 18th birthday based on the date of birth stored in their profile. No action is required from the player, the parent, or the facility admin.
The transition is based on the calendar date. When the system detects that the player has reached age 18, the account type is updated during the next login or system check.
What the Player Gains
After turning 18, the player can:
- Log in independently with full access to all features
- Book sessions without parent involvement
- Register for events and enroll in programs on their own
- Manage their own profile and account settings
- Set up their own payment method for future charges
- Receive notifications directly at their own email address
What Happens to the Parent Link
The parent-child link is not automatically removed when the minor turns 18. Instead:
- The parent retains view access to the player's activity (for a transition period)
- The player can choose to unlink from the parent account at any time
- The parent can no longer book on behalf of the player unless the player grants permission
If you are a newly turned 18 player and want to fully separate from your parent account, go to your Profile settings and manage your linked accounts.
What Happens to Existing Bookings
All existing bookings, registrations, and enrollments made before the transition remain intact:
- Upcoming bookings stay confirmed and are now fully managed by the player
- Program enrollments continue without interruption
- Payment history is preserved and visible to both the player and the former parent account
- Event registrations remain active
What the Parent Sees
After their child turns 18, the parent:
- May still see the child in their family dashboard (until unlinked)
- Can no longer make new bookings on behalf of the adult child
- Retains access to historical booking and payment records for past transactions
- Stops receiving new notifications for the child's activities
Facility Admin Perspective
As a facility admin, you do not need to take any action when a minor player turns 18. The system handles the transition automatically. You will notice:
- The player's status changes from Minor to Active
- The player now appears as a standard adult player on your roster
- Historical data and activity records are preserved
