Minor Signup Policies
Each facility in SlotBase can configure its own rules for how minors (players under 18) are allowed to sign up and participate. These policies give facility owners control over age-appropriate access while accommodating different organizational requirements.
Default Policy
By default, SlotBase applies the following rules:
| Age Range | Can Self-Signup? | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Under 13 | No | Must be added by a parent or facility admin |
| 13 -- 17 | Yes, with restrictions | Can create an account and join facilities, but parent oversight applies |
| 18+ | Yes | Full independent access |
Under the default policy, minors aged 13 and above can create their own SlotBase account and request to join facilities. However, their account is still subject to minor-specific restrictions until they turn 18.
YMCA Mode (Strict Policy)
Some facilities, particularly youth-focused organizations like YMCAs, require stricter controls. When YMCA mode is enabled:
| Age Range | Can Self-Signup? | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Under 18 | No | All minors must be added by a parent or facility admin |
| 18+ | Yes | Full independent access |
In YMCA mode, no minor can self-signup regardless of age. Every player under 18 must be added through a parent account or by a facility admin.
Configurable Settings
Facility admins can customize minor signup behavior through these settings:
| Setting | Description | Default |
|---|---|---|
| allowMinorSelfSignup | Whether minors are allowed to create their own accounts and join | Yes (for ages 13+) |
| minSelfSignupAge | The minimum age at which a minor can self-signup | 13 |
Examples
- Default:
allowMinorSelfSignup = true,minSelfSignupAge = 13-- Minors 13 and up can self-signup. - YMCA mode:
allowMinorSelfSignup = false-- No minor self-signup at any age. - Custom:
allowMinorSelfSignup = true,minSelfSignupAge = 16-- Only minors 16 and up can self-signup.
Configuring the Policy
To set your facility's minor signup policy:
- Navigate to Facility Settings in your admin dashboard.
- Go to the Member Policies section.
- Find the Minor Signup settings.
- Toggle Allow Minor Self-Signup on or off.
- If enabled, set the Minimum Self-Signup Age.
- Click Save.
Changing the minor signup policy only affects new signups. Existing minor accounts are not affected by policy changes.
What Happens When Self-Signup Is Disabled
When minor self-signup is disabled (or the minor is below the minimum age):
- The minor cannot create a SlotBase account on their own
- The signup form shows a message explaining they need a parent or guardian to register them
- Parents can still add the child through their family account
- Facility admins can still add the minor manually
What Happens When Self-Signup Is Enabled
When a minor meets the age requirement and self-signup is allowed:
- The minor can create their own SlotBase account
- They can request to join facilities
- Their account is flagged as a minor account with appropriate restrictions
- The system may prompt them to link a parent or guardian account
- Facility-specific restrictions for minors still apply
Choosing the Right Policy
| Facility Type | Recommended Policy |
|---|---|
| Community sports club | Default (13+) |
| YMCA / youth organization | YMCA mode (no self-signup) |
| High school athletics | Custom (14+ or 16+) |
| Adult-focused facility | Default or disable minor accounts entirely |
If you are unsure which policy to choose, start with the default. You can always tighten restrictions later if needed.
